History

Brooks, Houghton & Co. was founded in 1989 with a single devotion to assisting middle market companies in meeting their capital requirements. Our direct investment experience in middle market companies, through a series of subordinated debt funds, affords us a specialized skill and network of relationships that are unique to the marketplace. Highlights in our firm's history include:

1997

The firm launches BHC Interim Funding LP to provide subordinated debt to middle market companies.

2002

BHC Interim Fund II LP is established.

2007

BHC Interim Funding III LP is established.

2014

Brooks Houghton & Co. celebrates its 25th year as a merchant bank dedicated to the middle market in the United States.

2017

BHC Interim Funding LP changes its name to BHC Capital Partners and adds three new partners as it expands its presence in the marketplace.

Deane M. Driscoll

Managing Member – Chief Operating Officer and Investment Committee Member

Deane Driscoll is the Managing Member and Chief Operating Officer of BHC Capital Partners, and serves as a member of the  Advisor’s Investment Committee. Since 2004 Mr. Driscoll served in  similar capacities for the three predecessor funds managed by the Advisor.  Prior to that Mr. Driscoll has held senior underwriting, syndications and originations positions with GE Capital, BankBoston Business Credit, The CIT Group and Fleet Bank.

Mr. Driscoll has over  30 years of experience in all aspects of senior and subordinated lending, with a particular focus on junior lien and mezzanine financings.  Mr. Driscoll also serves on the Board of Directors of several  companies in the Advisor’s portfolio.

Mr. Driscoll earned a BA degree in economics from Villanova University and holds Series 79 and 63 FINRA registrations.

George J. Psomas

Senior Managing Director – Head of Originations and Investment Committee Member

George J. Psomas is a Senior Managing Director and Head of Originations of BHC Capital Partners, and also serves as a member of the Advisor’s Investment Committee. Mr. Psomas is a 30 year veteran of the asset based lending industry,  with a long track record of sourcing and closing senior and junior secured loans in the middle market space. 

Mr. Psomas spent more than half of his career at Congress Financial (later Wachovia Capital Finance) and since 2008 he has served in senior origination roles at RBS Citizens Business Capital, AloStar Business Credit and  Ares Commercial Finance. He is also the Founder and President of, Maple Street Advisors, providing advisory services for M&A and capital formation. Mr. Psomas has also held senior roles in the Commercial Finance Association and the Turnaround Management Association. 

Mr. Psomas earned a BS degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School) and is a holder of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation.

Andrew D. Shiftan

Senior Managing Director – Head of Portfolio Management, Originations and Investment Committee Member

Andrew Shiftan is a Senior Managing Director of BHC Capital Partners and also serves as a member of the Advisor’s Investment Committee.  Mr. Shiftan focuses on sourcing and executing new investment opportunities as well as the monitoring of portfolio companies, the same roles he has had since 2007 with respect to the predecessor funds managed by the Advisor. Mr. Shiftan also serves on the Board of Directors of several companies in the Advisor’s portfolio.

Mr. Shiftan brings over 20 years experience in corporate finance, M&A and debt and equity underwriting for both private and public companies. Previously, Mr. Shiftan served as a Managing Director within the Corporate Finance Department of Morgan Joseph & Co., Head of Investment Banking at CapitalKey Advisors LLC, a subsidiary of CapitalIQ Inc., and held various roles at KPMG Corporate Finance LLC, and Janney Montgomery Scott LLC.

Mr. Shiftan received an MBA with Honors from Fordham University, earned a BA degree from the University of Virginia and holds Series 24, 7 and 63 FINRA registrations.

Mark Slater

Senior Managing Director – Technology, Media & Telecom Investments and Investment Committee Member

Mark Slater is a Senior Managing Director of BHC Capital Partners and also serves as a member of the Advisor’s Investment Committee.  Mr. Slater focuses on sourcing and executing technology, media and telecom investment opportunities. 

Mr. Slater brings over 25 years experience in corporate finance, M&A and debt and equity underwriting for both private and public companies. Previously, Mr. Slater held investment banking positions at RBS Citizens, J.P. Morgan, Hambrecht & Quist, and served in the equity research group at Fidelity Management & Research. He has also independently advised multiple start-up companies, where he served as a senior member of management or as trusted Board advisor.

Mr. Slater received a Masters of Science in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and earned a BA in Classics and Physics from Brown University.

 

Craig Transue

Director – Originations, Execution, Portfolio Management and Investment Committee Member

Craig Transue is a Director at BHC Capital Partners and serves as a member of the Advisor’s Investment Committee.  Mr. Transue focuses on sourcing and executing new investment opportunities as well as the monitoring of portfolio companies.

Mr. Transue has over 24 years of experience in corporate finance, M&A, and debt underwriting for both public and private companies across a variety of industries including, General Industrials, Technology, Apparel, Retail and Consumer products.  Previously, Mr. Transue served as an Investment Committee member in CIT’s Asset Management business as well as a Director in the firm’s Sponsor Finance Group.  Prior to CIT, Mr. Transue held various roles at JPMorgan Chase after starting his career at Standard & Poors. 

Mr. Transue earned an MBA from Columbia Business School and graduated from Boston College with a BA in Political Science.  He also holds Series 7, 79 and 63 FINRA registrations. 

 
 

Stephen T. Palopoli

Director – Originations, Execution, Portfolio Management and Investment Committee Member

Stephen Palopoli is a Director of BHC Capital Partners and also serves as a member of the Advisor’s Investment Committee.  Mr. Palopoli focuses on transaction analysis, sourcing, structuring and execution of investments. Additional responsibilities include the monitoring of portfolio companies.

Previously Mr. Palopoli served in Vice President roles in another middle market credit fund and a middle market advisor. Mr. Palopoli’s experience encompasses the energy, industrials, infrastructure and real estate sectors.

Mr. Palopoli received an MBA from the Fox School of Business at Temple University and a BA at St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD.
